2022 Review: New places in Singapore

1. Newly Opened Rifle Range Nature Park

Rifle Range Nature Park is the newest addition to the Central Nature Park Network, and it buffers Bukit Timah Nature Reserve from nearby development while offering ecosystems that complement its high biodiversity.

This nature park located along Rifle Range Road on the site of the former Sin Seng Quarry was sensitively enhanced based on the findings of a biodiversity baseline study, which guided ecological enhancements ranging from habitat enhancement to wildlife connectivity features and sustainability elements.

2. Woodlands Heritage Trail

The National Heritage Board's (NHB) new Woodlands Heritage Trail highlights the city's rich military history, the evolution of its neighborhoods and places of worship, and its transition into a modern estate through 15 heritage sites and eight heritage trail markers.

Three themed pathways – Communities of Woodlands, Woodlands at War, and A Journey through the Woods – showcasing the region's lesser-known stories have been included into the trail, which was created with community input.

3. Sentosa Heritage Trail

The new Sentosa Heritage Trail, developed by the National Heritage Board (NHB) in partnership with Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), features 30 heritage sites, including the recently declared National Monument Fort Siloso, and 10 heritage trail markers.

The trail traces the island's transformation from a military complex to a leisure destination, uncovers the stories of the communities who once lived there, and sheds light on the story of modern Sentosa's development. These trail markers are augmented by an additional twenty interpretative signage to enhance visitors' understanding of Sentosa's history.

4. Changi Bay Point

Changi Bay Park Connector is a part of the Round-Island-Route section. It links Changi Beach Park to the East Coastal Park Connector Network over a distance of 3.6 kilometers.

Completed and accessible to the public in January 2022, it provides cyclists and hikers traveling from East Coast Park to Changi Beach Park with a scenic coastal path.

5. Gardens by the Bay Active Garden

Gardens by the Bay's Active Garden, a new 10,000 sqm purpose-built green area for people of all generations to connect via physical, social, and educational activities, was formally unveiled in the organization's tenth anniversary year.

On 2 April, Active Garden was launched by President Halimah Yacob, who planted a variegated guava tree (Psidium guajava 'Variegata') to mark the event. Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development, also spoke during the launch.
