32 alleged drug offenders were detained as part of an islandwide Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) investigation targeting drug transactions done over encrypted chat applications such as Telegram.
Drugs totaling $140,000 were recovered during the investigation on April 18 and 19.
Officers seized approximately 191 grams of crystal meth, dubbed Ice, 718 grams of cannabis, 714 grams of Ecstasy pills, and two bottles of liquid thought to contain gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).
On April 18, CNB officers apprehended a 26-year-old Singaporean man near Bukit Batok West on suspicion of being involved in Telegram drug sales.
The man was escorted to his residence in the same area, where police seized approximately 173g of crystalline substances believed to contain Ice, 488g of cannabis, 713g of Ecstasy tablets, 51 Erimin-5 tablets, multiple LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) stamps, and one bottle of liquid suspected to contain GHB.
A 24-year-old Singaporean male was also detained for alleged drug offenses after visiting the same residential unit later that day.
According to Superintendent Stanley Seah, deputy director of the intelligence section, 50 suspected drug offenders were detained in November last year during a similar operation targeting drug transactions done over encrypted chat programs.
