The Straits Times reported on Monday, citing a July study by Milieu Insight, that seven out of ten Singaporean workers desire a four-day work week in order to attain a better work-life balance.
According to the study, several firms in Singapore are already experimenting with a reduced work week. PropertyGuru Group Ltd., which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, is increasing the number of rest days while keeping the same number of working hours.
Additionally, smaller companies, such as the barbershop chain Sultans of Shave and the dentistry office DP Dental, are cutting the number of workdays.
In recent years, since the Covid-19 pandemic compelled millions of individuals to work from home, flexible working alternatives have been in the limelight.
In a six-month experiment that is the largest of its type in the world, 70 firms in the United Kingdom presently let employees to work a four-day week without a pay cut.
As part of a flexible work arrangement that began in 2021, PropertyGuru employees can compress their full week's 40 work hours into four days a week or nine days a fortnight with no reduction in compensation, according to a corporate email to Bloomberg.
The Singapore National Employers Federation will observe the results of the UK experiment but will not endorse it, SNEF executive director Sim Gim Guan told the Straits Times, adding, "There is no one-size-fits-all work arrangement that can be applied to all workplaces."
