A woman caught participating in an unlawful assembly repeatedly attempted to bribe a police officer with $100 so that she could be freed.
The officer was unwilling to accept the money.
Last year, 28-year-old Chinese national Chen Yuanyuan was one among 15 individuals who attended an unlawful Chinese New Year celebration staged in violation of pandemic prohibitions.
Chen was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison and fined $3,000 on Thursday (August 11) after pleading guilty to bribery and violating Covid-19 regulations.
She was also found guilty of kicking a police officer in a separate incident, and four more offenses were considered at sentence.
On February 25, 2016, at around 2:00 a.m., the police responded to a report of an unlawful party being hosted at a unit at 1 Pemimpin Drive, an industrial neighborhood.
When the authorities arrived, they discovered fifteen partygoers aged 26 to 40. Covid-19 rules at the time limited social gatherings to no more than eight individuals.
Chen and her partymates consumed alcoholic beverages, played games, and sang songs.
Ben Tan and Tessa Tan, assistant public prosecutors, stated, "No steps were made to limit the danger of infection among the social gathering's attendees."
When the police refused, she did so again. She then presented the police with a $100 bill, stating she could not take it back.
The officer informed Chen that her actions constituted bribery and reported the incident to her boss.
According to court papers, the majority of the other partygoers have been dealt with in court and punished.
