Want to know what our neighbours are saying about the conflict? We have compiled statements from ASEAN countries on the conflict, sans Myanmar which made no statement. In summary, Singapore and Philippines have condemned Hamas attacks as terrorist. Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei have sympathized with the Palestinian cause. Others have remained neutral, calling for an end to violence without taking clear sides.
Singapore
Singapore strongly condemns the rocket and terror attacks from Gaza on Israel, which have resulted in deaths and injuries of many innocent civilians. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. We call for an immediate end to the violence and urge all sides to do their utmost to protect the safety and security of civilians.
Malaysia
Malaysia condemns in the strongest terms Israel's outrageous and arbitrary bombing of public areas as well as the regime's actions to block basic supplies of water, electricity and food.
Indonesia
Indonesia is deeply concerned about the escalation of conflict between Palestine and Israel. Indonesia urges the immediate end of violence to avoid further human casualties. The root of the conflict is Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory that must be resolved in accordance with the parameters agreed upon by the United Nations.
Thailand
Thailand calls upon all parties involved to refrain from any actions that would further escalate tensions and joins the international community in condemning any use of violence and indiscriminate attacks. We hope that the situation in Israel will soon return to normalcy.
Vietnam
We call on relevant parties to exercise restraint, refrain from taking actions that complicate the situation, and soon resume negotiations to resolve disagreements through peaceful means, on the basis of international law and the relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, and ensuring the safety and legitimate interests of civilians.
Philippines
The Philippines condemns the killing of two Filipino nationals and all other acts of terrorism and violence as a result of Hamas actions against Israel. The Philippines is ready to work with other countries towards a long-lasting resolution to the conflict, in accordance with pertinent United Nations Security Council Resolutions and the general principles of international law.
Cambodia
Cambodia calls upon all parties to exercise utmost restraint and seek avenues for de-escalation and ceasefire, putting the priority on protecting civilian lives and upholding international humanitarian law. Cambodia condemns all forms of violence and terrorist acts.
Brunei
The plight of the Palestinians remains at the core of the conflict in the Middle East. For decades, Palestinians have been denied their inalienable rights to self-determination, peace and freedom, as a result of prolonged occupation, forced displacement and the continuing expansion of illegal settlements. Brunei Darussalam reiterates its solidarity with the Palestinian people and the creation of an independent State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Laos
Lao PDR calls on all parties concerned to resume a negotiation process and restore mutual trust for solving the long-overdue Palestinian issue through the establishment of two sovereign states coexisting peacefully in line with the relevant UN resolutions and international law.
Myanmar
