Phoon Chiu Yoke, 55, was charged on Friday (Oct. 7) for failing to wear a mask over her nose and mouth for approximately 15 minutes at ION Orchard.
She reportedly committed the offense between 11:48 a.m. and 12:03 a.m. on August 16, 2022, days before the mask requirement was repealed in most areas, excluding public transportation and some healthcare facilities.
Phoon now faces a total of four charges. She received the last three in September for failing to wear a mask on Orchard Road twice in March and failing to appear for an inquiry.
Her case was postponed until October 14, when she will attend a pre-trial meeting.
She had already stated her intention to enter a guilty plea.
This is Phoon's second offense for not wearing a face mask. In September of last year, she was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail for the first set.
As a repeat offender, Phoon might face up to one year in prison, a fine of up to S$20,000, or both if convicted of neglecting to wear a mask when necessary.
Under the Infectious Diseases Act, the penalties for a second offense of failing to comply with an officer during an inquiry are same.
