Body of missing NSF found

The body of a full-time national serviceman (NSF) who went missing in Pulau Ubin while on off duty was discovered on Sunday (16 April) afternoon.

The body was discovered in the water at Kekek Quarry, which is located in the north of Pulau Ubin.

Sunday at approximately 1:00 p.m., a body was spotted floating in the water, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The body was recovered from the quarry by rescuers conducting a search.

The NSF, who was a firefighter for the SCDF at the Tampines Fire Station, was declared deceased by a paramedic.

"Based on preliminary investigations, the police do not suspect foul play," the police stated, adding that further inquiries are ongoing.

After being dispatched to Kekek Quarry at 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, SCDF reported that there was no trace of the NSF on Saturday evening.

It dispatched firefighters to search visually from the shore.

The Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team also utilized an underwater remotely operated vehicle equipped with sonar-imaging equipment for mapping the underwater terrain. It reduces the danger posed to divers by inadequate visibility.
