The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said on Thursday that heavy traffic is expected at the Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints during the next several days due to the upcoming National Day public holiday.
National Day is on August 9, which is the next Tuesday.
"Travelers should expect delays from August 5 to August 10 and are advised to make any necessary adjustments to their travel arrangements to avoid being stuck in traffic congestion," the ICA stated.
According to the agency, traffic flow at checkpoints has been gradually rising. The number of travelers hit 290,000 per day during the last weekend, the highest level since April 1, when land borders were reopened.
This broke the previous weekend record of 278,000 travelers each day, which was set during the June school vacation.
During the Vesak Day weekend in May, there were 224,000 travelers each day, compared to 149,000 during the Good Friday weekend in April.
ICA reported that at the peak of the National Day long weekend in 2019, passengers traveling and arriving via land checkpoints had to wait up to four hours to clear immigration.
The government recommended travelers to allow extra time for immigration processing and to avoid the following busiest times:
Departing Singapore
Friday, August 5, from 3pm until 11:59pm
Saturday, August 6: 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Arriving in Singapore
Sunday, August 7 through Wednesday, August 10: 6 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
Since June 6, travelers departing via Woodlands Checkpoint should also be aware that Malaysia's Bangunan Sultan Iskandar is undergoing renovations to its arrival immigration vehicle booths. During this time, booths receiving upgrades will not be operable.
ICA also urged motorists to monitor the traffic condition at land checkpoints via the One Motoring website or the Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System (EMAS) located along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) and Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE).
In addition to ICA's Facebook and Twitter accounts and local radio stations, motorists may receive traffic updates via ICA's Facebook and Twitter accounts and local radio stations.
Since Monday, all travelers entering Malaysia no longer need to fill out the MySejahtera mobile application's traveler's card.
Last week, Malaysia's Minister of Health Khairy Jamaluddin stated that the measure aims to simplify entry procedures.
