The residents of Block 536, Bukit Batok Street 52, who hanged pork belly to dry on a clothes drying rack, causing the sauce from the meat to stain the laundry of their neighbors below, have apologized.
Shin Min Daily News said that the occupants who hung out the meat to prepare it for cooking sincerely apologized to the apartment below.
On Sunday night, a Shin Min reporter went to the neighborhood and discovered that the residents of the accused unit had already brought the pork back inside.
One of the ladies who hung out the meat, who wished to be identified as Shui Shui, stated that her mother had intended to take advantage of the sun on Sunday to air-dry the pork belly slabs.
She added that they were preparing homemade pork belly for the Lunar New Year to have a taste of their homeland flavors.
Shui Shui said: "The sun was shining brightly, so my mother marinated some pork belly and hung it outdoors to dry. We were unaware that we could not do this, therefore we removed it as soon as we were informed."
She stated that she was truly sorry for causing her neighbors difficulty and that she never intended to harm them.
On Sunday, they sought to apologize to the afflicted family, but no one was home.
The residents of the impacted residence, however, told the Shin Min reporter that they accepted the apologies and will not pursue the matter further.
Shui Shui said, "The neighbor has accepted my apologies, and I promise not to repeat the mistake."
Additionally, Shui Shui stated that she was upset by the internet insults made about her family.
She cried during the conversation and expressed concern for her child's safety.
She said: "We sincerely apologize, and we will never do such a thing again. We hope for this situation to be resolved."
Additionally, Shin Min said that Shui Shui and her mother are ignorant of local customs.
