"Busted" $32m scam couple arrested

The couple who scammed victims of more than S$32 million was apprehended at a Johor Bahru, Malaysia hotel.

After escaping Singapore on July 4, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) acquired information about the couple's suspected location on Wednesday, August 10th.

The next day, a warrant of arrest was executed for Pi Jiapeng, 26, and Pansuk Siriwiwipa, 27, via the collaboration of SPF and the Royal Malaysia Police.

"The Singapore Police Force has been working closely with international law enforcement organizations to ensure the couple's return to Singapore. The pair was given an arrest warrant on July 16," SPF stated in a Straits Times story.

The pair were turned over to SPF on Thursday and will be charged with criminal conspiracy to conduct fraud and unlawful departure from Singapore.

According to reports, they were apprehended alone at the hotel. Two black bags containing the couple's personal items were carried by SPF policemen who escorted the pair.

"The Singaporean government will seek and apprehend people who commit crimes in Singapore, regardless of where they may have gone. Additionally, we will not hesitate to take harsh action against scammers, according to SPF.
