Former senior parliamentary secretary and PAP veteran Chan Chee Seng passed away on Saturday evening at the age of 90.
The eldest daughter of Mr. Chan, Ms. Chan Mun-E, revealed to The Straits Times on Sunday that he had been hospitalized with pneumonia at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he eventually passed away.
Ms. Chan stated that he was surrounded by family members and that they had arrived to the hospital to celebrate Mr. Chan's life with him.
Mr. Chan was active in politics between 1957 and 1984, according to the website of ISS International School, which he created and where he most recently served as board chairman.
During his career in politics, he served as a member of parliament for the Jalan Besar ward for more than twenty years and as the senior parliamentary secretary for social affairs and for industry and trade.
After retirement, he concentrated his efforts on the expansion of ISS. In 1993, his wife Chan Ching Oi, who had left the Ministry of Health to join the school, joined him in this endeavor.
Mr Chan is survived by his wife, two daughters and three grandchildren. His wake is being held at Singapore Casket level 2, Regency Hall, and his funeral will be conducted there at 8.30am on Wednesday.
