Coldplay adds Jan 30 show in Singapore after selling over 200,000 tickets for four shows

Coldplay, the renowned British band, has set a new record in Singapore as they add an extraordinary fifth show at the National Stadium on January 30 next year, expanding their concert dates from January 23, 24, 26, and 27. The demand for tickets has been overwhelming, with over 200,000 tickets for the original four shows sold during the pre-sales period on Monday.

Promoter Live Nation announced that Coldplay broke Singapore's record for the most tickets sold by an artist in a single day. The excitement surrounding the concerts led to more than a million virtual queue numbers being issued on Monday. However, many fans faced technical difficulties while accessing the ticketing website, causing frustration among eager ticket buyers.

The pre-sale tickets, which were open to all who had signed up for Artiste presale and Live Nation presale, sold out within five hours. General sales will commence on Tuesday, with ticket prices ranging from $68 to $298.

The ticketing process involves individuals progressing from the virtual queue to a page where they can select the desired date and ticket category before proceeding to the payment page. Buyers can have multiple queue numbers if they access the pre-sale link from different devices or possess multiple accounts with the ticketing website.

Numerous social media users expressed their dissatisfaction with the long online queues to enter the Ticketmaster website. Some individuals even encountered six-digit queue numbers for the first time. Complaints also arose regarding the ticket selection page, with instances of users being kicked out and sent to the back of the virtual queue after refreshing the page.

Angela Cheong, a Twitter user, reported encountering a "frozen screen" with "no links for purchase" twice upon entering the ticket selection page. Meanwhile, a Reddit user shared her experience of being redirected to a page that denied her access to any tickets after exiting the virtual queue. Other users in the comments section confirmed that they were facing similar issues.

The overwhelming demand for tickets has prompted some individuals on the e-commerce marketplace Carousell to offer their queue numbers for sale, with prices reaching up to $50 per ticket.

Coldplay's announcement last week regarding their Singapore concerts followed their sold-out shows in Malaysia and Indonesia, among other countries. Live Nation, the concert promoter, also revealed that Coldplay would be the first music act to perform for four consecutive nights at the National Stadium.

Formed in London in 1997, Coldplay has achieved global success with numerous chart-topping hits, including "Yellow," "Viva la Vida," "A Sky Full of Stars," and "Higher Power." Their previous performances in Singapore in 2017 left a lasting impact, and fans are eagerly anticipating their upcoming shows in January next year.
