On Tuesday, a police officer was accused with receiving bribes in the form of loans and cash.
45-year-old Poo Tze Chiang was charged with seven charges of corruption and three counts of obstructing justice.
Seven times in 2019 and 2020, he is said to have taken $32,500 in bribes from Cordell Chan Yuen Kwang and Wang Huate.
Allegedly, Poo was paid to supply Chan and Wang with information and help on police investigations against them.
In September 2019, 51-year-old Ng Chuan Seng reportedly assisted Chan and Wang by giving Poo a red envelope containing $2,000 in cash.
On Tuesday, Ng was charged with one count of corruption for giving the red envelope to Poo in Geylang.
Poo reportedly notified Chan on August 5, 2020, that Wang would be imprisoned if he presented himself for bail.
On that day, the three were at a void deck in Bukit Batok when Poo reportedly showed his police warrant card to two police officers patrolling the area in order to prevent them from conducting checks on Chan and Wang.
On November 25, 2020, at the same area, Poo reportedly advised Chan to visit a neighboring coffee shop after spotting a colleague's car.
According to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), Singapore has a stringent zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
If convicted of corruption, Poo may face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000 per count.
If he is found guilty of obstructing justice, he might be fined and imprisoned for up to seven years each charge.
