A former executive chairman of two mosques is said to have advised a company director on the pricing of proposals for mosque-related work.
Reportedly, the director compensated him with stock in a travel company.
The former executive chairman, 55-year-old Abdul Rahim Mawasi, was charged with one count of corruption on Friday.
According to a statement from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), he was the previous executive chairman of the boards of directors for the Darul Aman Mosque in Jalan Eunos and the Sallim Mattar Mosque in MacPherson.
Online check reveals that he was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2015.
Mohd Mustaqim Kam @ Kam Hock Beng, 64, the director of Zeal-Con Engineering, reportedly provided him with the gratification.
On Friday, he was further charged with corruption.
According to court records, Abdul Rahim reportedly obtained shares of Amal Travel & Tour from him between November 2019 and December 2019.
Abdul Rahim was represented by Mr. Satwant Singh, whilst Mustaqim did not have an attorney but informed the court that he was considering hiring one.
They are due back in court on October 21.
If convicted of corruption, each men faces up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, or both.
CPIB stated in its statement that it investigates all corruption-related complaints and reports, including those that are anonymous. It is accessible via a variety of ways, including e-complaints that can be filed here.
