Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has demonstrated his many abilities outside of the workplace.

Mr. Wong, who is also the Minister of Finance, rode a Royal Enfield Classic 500 motorbike to raise money for the Children's Cancer Foundation on Sunday, August 14.

The event was organized by Riders Aid Singapore, and the convoy left the Tampines Heavy Vehicle Carpark at around 1:00 p.m. More than 700 motorcycle riders attended the event.

Mr. Suriya Kumar, president of Riders Aid Singapore, stated that around $30,000 has been collected thus far.

At around 1:45 p.m., DPM Wong joined the convoy as the participants cycled from the Al-Istighfar Mosque in Pasir Ris to the Loyang Tua Pek Kong Temple approximately 1 kilometer away.

He thanked the organizers at the temple for providing him the opportunity to ride a motorcycle after more than two decades.

He remarked, "I haven't done it in over 20 years; the last time I did it was when I was a student in America."

"When I went home and began working, I had a scooter for a while," he said.

"However, it has been almost 20 years since I last rode a bicycle. Therefore, I was pleased to have the chance to ride with Riders Aid Singapore to support a worthy cause."

The motorcycle that was supplied for DPM Wong to utilize at the ceremony was signed by him. It will serve as a showcase piece for the Ubi dealership.

Mr. Kumar stated that he had invited DPM Wong to be the guest of honor at the event after learning from a community leader that the minister had previously ridden motorbikes.

"We reached out to him, and were extremely startled when he stated he wanted to ride a bike alone," he explained. "Usually, our honored visitors would ride pillion, so we were all rather delighted."

Mr. Kumar gave DPM Wong with a painting of him riding a motorcycle as a sign of appreciation.

Ms. Ng Siao Sze, assistant director of community collaborations at the Children's Cancer Foundation, expressed gratitude for everyone's assistance.

"(The foundation) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and we could not have gotten this far without your continued support and generosity," she added.

"Thank you for having such a great influence on cancer-afflicted youngsters and their families."
