First female Malay naval officer commissioned

Saturday saw the commissioning of 407 officer cadets from the army, navy, and air force, including the first female Malay naval officer.

As the Reviewing Officer, President Halimah Yacob attended the Officer Cadet Commissioning Parade at Safti Military Institute, together with Senior Minister of State for Defence Zaqy Mohamad.

24-year-old Lieutenant (LTA) Iffa Daniesha was motivated to join the nation's defense force after witnessing her father's commitment as an officer in the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

When asked how she feels about being the first female Malay naval officer, she said that she is proud since she always wanted to join the navy.

“I am proud to serve the nation, to do my part like many others have done before me, and I hope my achievement can encourage others to bravely pursue their dreams,” she added.

LTA Iffa graduated with 305 officer cadets from the Singapore Army, 58 officer cadets from the Republic of Singapore Navy, and 44 officer cadets from the Republic of Singapore Air Force.

Saturday, the Ministry of Defense said that newly commissioned officers will assume command, instructional, or staff positions.
