Wednesday, the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) announced that former Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Chief of Army Goh Si Hou would become Public Utilities Board (PUB) chief executive on July 22. (8 June).
Goh, 44, who resigned as Chief of Army on March 10, will succeed Peter Ng Joo Hee, who is retiring from the Administrative Service, according to a press statement issued by MSE.
Goh has been a PUB Board member since 1 April of last year. He held critical command and staff positions in the SAF before to becoming Chief of Army on 21 March 2018, including Commanding Officer of the 20th Singapore Artillery Battalion, Commander of the 3rd Division Artillery, and Commander of the 6th Singapore Division.
During his time as Assistant Chief of the General Staff (Plans) and Director for Personnel Policy at the Ministry of Defence, he spearheaded the development of new SAF career plans.
MSE stated, "During the COVID-19 epidemic over the previous two years, Goh secured the operational resilience of the Army and spearheaded its contributions to national efforts against COVID-19."
After a lengthy career in law enforcement, Ng, 56, has led PUB since 2015. From 2010 to 2015, he was the Commissioner of Police, and from 2008 to 2010, he was the Commissioner of Prisons.
According to MSE, he managed the construction of numerous important water infrastructure projects, including the Tuas Desalination Plant in 2018, the Marina East Desalination Plant in 2020, and the Jurong Island Desalination Plant in 2022.
"In 2019, the Choa Chu Kang Waterworks also completed a major overhaul, making it the biggest ceramic membrane filtering facility in the world. The installation of these plants has increased Singapore's water security "it noted.
Ng also headed PUB in its new role as the national authority in charge of coastal protection to safeguard Singapore from increasing sea levels. PUB was responsible with evaluating flood hazards, engineering solutions, and site-specific studies for City-East Coast, Jurong Island, and Singapore's northwest coast.
