Jobseekers in Singapore are increasingly seeking for jobs abroad, despite a significant increase in local offers, according to Indeed data, which found a 72 percent increase in the search for employment in other countries by Singapore-based job seekers between March 2020 and February 2022.

The United States is the preferred country, accounting for more than 24% of searches. Canada was the second most popular location, accounting for almost 10% of requests. The United Kingdom, the Philippines, Malaysia, and India were all in the top 10 most wanted countries.

Singaporean job searchers are mostly interested in positions in information technology, customer service, administration, and healthcare. The most often sought technology positions in Singapore are Software Engineer, Data Analyst, and Data Scientist.

"Singapore boasts a well-educated and cosmopolitan workforce," stated Florence Yip, Senior Manager, Talent Acquisition, Indeed Singapore. With global boundaries reopening, they would seek out chances to work in diverse contexts, either to further their careers or to get new professional experiences."

Indeed's research also indicates an increase in foreign job searchers seeking possibilities to work in Singapore. During the pandemic period (March 2020 – March 2022), foreign job searchers accounted for 36% of overall clicks on Singapore job posts on Indeed, mostly due to growing interest in Asia and the United States.

India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the United States are the top four nations from which job seekers seek employment in Singapore.

Indeed noted that the opening of Singapore's borders and the relaxing of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions have made it more appealing and accessible for foreigners to re-enter the market.

"Singapore has always been a global city that takes pride in its open economy," Yip said. The country's labor sector has recently experienced a strong revival and an increase in prospects for international employees."
