Johor crown prince's official visit to Singapore includes Commando Unit Tour and football agreement



Johor's crown prince is scheduled to embark on an official visit to Singapore from Monday (Jul 10) to Wednesday, as announced by Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Sunday.


During his visit, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, accompanied by his wife Che' Puan Besar Khaleeda, will engage in several significant events. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife Madam Ho Ching will host a tea session in honor of the royal couple, fostering warm diplomatic ties between the two nations.


Furthermore, Tunku Ismail will be the guest of honor at a welcome dinner organized by Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and his wife. The distinguished event will provide an opportunity for the crown prince to interact with prominent figures in Singapore's government.


In addition to these engagements, Tunku Ismail is scheduled to meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong. This meeting aims to foster bilateral relations and discuss potential areas of collaboration between Johor and Singapore.


Accompanying Tunku Ismail on his visit are officials from the Johor palace and state administration. Their presence signifies the significance and commitment placed on strengthening the ties between Johor and Singapore.


During his stay, the crown prince's itinerary includes visits to notable institutions in Singapore. He will have the opportunity to tour the Singapore Armed Forces Commandos, hosted by Senior Minister of State for Defence Zaqy Mohamad. This visit will provide Tunku Ismail with insights into the capabilities and operations of Singapore's elite military units.


Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang will also guide Tunku Ismail during his visit to Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School. This visit aims to showcase Singapore's educational system and provide a platform for the exchange of ideas on education between the two countries.


Furthermore, Tunku Ismail will join Minister for Culture, Community, and Youth Edwin Tong to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Football Association of Singapore and the Johor Football Association. This agreement will pave the way for collaboration in football development, including the establishment of an annual cup match between a Singapore Selection and Johor Selection team starting from 2024.


The upcoming visit of Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim signifies the mutual commitment of Johor and Singapore to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore opportunities for collaboration in various sectors, including defense, education, and sports.
