Lawrence Wong, the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, will visit Brunei Darussalam from Wednesday, January 18 to Thursday, January 20.
According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), this is his first official visit to the nation in his current position.
Mr. Wong will meet with the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, and the Crown Prince and Senior Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Al-Muhtadee Billah.
Prince Abdul Mateen, special adviser to the Sultan and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Awang Isa, and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Amin Liew will also meet with him.
Additionally, Mr. Wong will meet with Singaporean community members in Brunei, according to PMO.
Mr. Wong, who is also the Minister of Finance, will be accompanied on his tour by Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Finance, and Communications and Information.
In August, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah was in Singapore for a two-day state visit. Both nations signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and reaffirmed their "special and longstanding relationship."
Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah also made an official visit to Singapore in August, leading a delegation to the 8th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders' Programme (YLP) — an important platform for young Singaporean and Bruneian leaders to connect and build ties.
