Lee Hsien Yang stated on Tuesday, March 7, that he and his wife, Lee Suet Fern, may never return to Singapore due to an ongoing police investigation.
Lee, the younger son of first prime minister Lee Kuan Yew and the brother of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, stated in a long Facebook post that his sister, Lee Wei Ling, has become extremely ill.
"It pains me beyond words knowing I may never see my sister face to face again," he wrote.
Lee was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy in August of 2020, she claimed, characterizing it as a neurological disorder that impairs physical motions and eventually leads to dementia with significant behavioral changes.
Lee's recent statements come days after Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean warned Parliament on Thursday that Lee and his wife are being investigated for alleged perjury offenses.
Teo stated in a written response that the pair departed Singapore after refusing to attend a police interview that they had earlier agreed to attend.
Authorities later reported that the couple departed Singapore in June 2022 following their engagement and have not returned since.
The Court of Three Judges and a disciplinary panel determined in 2020 that the pair had misled on oath during disciplinary proceedings against Lee, a lawyer, over her management of the last will of the 91-year-old Lee Kuan Yew, who died on March 23, 2015.
The Law Society had submitted Lee to a disciplinary tribunal for her participation in the formulation and execution of the final will, which changed significantly from his sixth and last will and omitted several revisions he had discussed with Kwa Kim Li days previously.
Not included in the sixth or penultimate wills was a clause about the destruction of his 38 Oxley Road home following his death, which was included in the final will.
This clause became a topic of contention among the children of the late Lee.
The Attorney-Chambers General's had filed a complaint with the Law Society over Lee's suspected professional misconduct in relation to the will.
After finding her guilty of substantially wrong professional behavior, the disciplinary panel submitted the issue to the Court of Three Judges, the highest disciplinary authority dealing with attorney misconduct.
The Court of Three Judges suspended Lee from practicing law for fifteen months.
Friday, Lee Hsien Yang told the Bloomberg news agency in a phone interview from Europe that he had been asked to run for president in the forthcoming election, which is anticipated to be held in September 2023, and that he would consider doing so.
Yet, a number of attorneys and legal professors stated that the ruling by the disciplinary panel and Court of Three Judges that Lee had lied under oath may hinder his campaign.
Lee repeated the viewpoint he and his sister had maintained about their father's home in a Monday Facebook post.
He stated, "Both of us have always accepted that the Singapore Government had the power to preserve our father's house, but we reject the continued pretence that he had changed his mind and was now "okay" with it."
Lee also reiterated charges of harassment, monitoring, and smear operations he had previously made about the issue.
He wrote: “After what I have been through, I have no confidence whatsoever in the system.”
