An LGBT party organized by Slay LA had to be canceled after the venue's management, IMC Asia, expressed discomfort with hosting a "gay event."
Slay had scheduled the SLAY Harajuku event to take place at the Capitol Theatre on May 27, but the venue's management cited complaints from neighboring tenants, including a mosque, about a previous EDM event held over New Year's Eve.
The organizers of the LGBT party claimed they had made it clear to the management that the event was inclusive, but IMC Asia terminated the hire agreement days later, saying that Perennial Holdings was uncomfortable with it being a "gay event."
Slay said they had already made full payment for the venue last month and that none of the concerns were raised during their correspondence and site visits.
The organizers were unable to find an alternative venue due to the abrupt termination and had to cancel the event.
Capitol Singapore and Perennial Holdings have not yet responded to queries regarding the incident.
