In 2015, a man who worked as a primary school teacher is said to have molested a girl who was about seven years old at his workplace.
The now-54-year-old man was charged with molestation in a district court on October 28, and his case has been adjourned to November 11.
To protect the girl's identity, he cannot be named due to a gag order.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) stated in a statement to The Straits Times on Tuesday that the individual has been suspended from teaching duties since April 2021 and is no longer employed by any school.
"MOE takes employee misconduct seriously and will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against individuals who fail to comply to our standards of conduct and discipline, including removal from service," stated a spokesperson.
In 2015, the male reportedly used his hand to touch the girl's private regions through her skirt while they were at school.
There is no indication in the court filings as to whether or not she was a student at the institution at the period in question.
