A 46-year-old man was charged with attempted murder of a lady on Saturday (Apr 16) at Beach Road.
According to the charge sheet filed on Monday, Cheng Guoyuan, a Chinese national, is accused of repeatedly "slashing and chopping" the 42-year-old lady with a chopper.
According to authorities, the victim is thought to be his wife.
At around 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, police responded to an incident at 75 Beach Road. They discovered a woman with slash wounds and transported her to the hospital.
Cheng was apprehended in the vicinity by police officers who used a Taser to subdue him. According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly sliced his wrists with a chopper before cops arrived, adding that he was brought to the hospital.
Numerous members of the public interfered during the incident and were applauded by police.
Staff members of the adjacent Zhong Hua Steamboat restaurant assisted the victim by hurling chairs and other objects at Cheng. At the time, customers were dining in the cafe.
