Man gets rescued by CNB officers after escape goes wrong

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) saved a drug trafficking suspect from falling from a ninth-floor flat as he sought to evade capture.

Wednesday, the narcotics enforcement agency announced that the incident occurred during one of two separate raids in which six Singaporeans, including a pregnant lady, were arrested.

Monday evening, three males between the ages of 23 and 30 and a lady of 28 were arrested at a Bedok North Road residence.

CNB stated that the raid became a "life-or-death situation" when one of the suspects climbed out of a bedroom window on the ninth story and lost his footing.

The 25-year-old suspect was rescued by multiple officers before being detained for narcotics trafficking.

Superintendent William Tan, CNB's senior assistant director of intelligence operations, stated, "A suspected drug criminal exhibited complete disregard for his own and others' safety while seeking to elude capture."

"This became a life-or-death scenario when our officer, who was detaining the suspect, was forced to hang on to him when he lost his balance. During operations, our officers must make split-second judgments and even put themselves in grave risk to achieve the safe capture of offenders."

Upon preventing the suspect's fall, the CNB officer sustained severe lacerations to his right arm and was brought to the hospital for treatment.

CNB officers arrested a 28-year-old male and a 26-year-old pregnant lady at another Bedok North Road apartment during a Monday evening raid.

The woman, whose nine-month-old kid was present in the flat during the search, was arrested for drug use. CNB reported that her child has been placed in the hands of a relative.

In the early hours of Monday morning, the man fled a previous attempt at arrest and smashed his vehicle near Kaki Bukit Avenue 3. Around 1 kilogram of heroin was found from the vehicle.

In all, about 437g of methamphetamine, also known as Ice, 1,322g of heroin, five Ecstasy pills, and 18 tablets suspected of containing additional banned substances with a market value of $158,500 were recovered from the two apartments and the vehicle.

The amount of Ice recovered is enough to meet the demands of around 250 addicts per week, while the amount of heroin seized is sufficient to satisfy the needs of approximately 630 addicts per week.

Except for the pregnant mother, all of the suspects were detained for drug trafficking violations.

Any anyone convicted of trafficking more than 15 grams of pure heroin or 250 grams of methamphetamine is subject to the death sentence.

Investigations into the six people now detained are underway.
