In several F&B businesses, 'choping' a seat using a tissue package is a distinctly Singaporean custom. But not everyone likes it.
Manmeet Singh, a Facebook user, reported that the event occurred at a Toast Box location at Tan Tock Seng Hospital on August 8 in the morning.
In the post, he captioned it "Down with tissue chop table" and claimed that an old woman was "making her first mistake" by listening in on his talk with his buddies while in line.
Afterwards, she allegedly abandoned her place in line to reserve a table with a tissue box.
She resumed the line as the man and his companions were discussing how her 'chope-ing' a table was impolite. She apparently responded that it was none of his f***ing business.
Singh reportedly accused the woman and her companion of speaking loudly and gazing straight at him after they had their meals.
In his message, he expressed feeling harassed, and after futile attempts to persuade them to stop, he lost his patience and cursed at her in Hokkien.
The guy said in his Facebook post that the woman then phoned the police; he first opted not to pursue the matter, but stated a police officer persuaded him to file a report for "record purposes."
He distributed a copy of the police report, which included the time, place, a summary of the entire occurrence, and even the name of a witness.
The police verified to AsiaOne that the reports had been filed.
Nonetheless, several netizens in the comment thread questioned his decision to file a police report for what they saw to be a small event, with one stating that "it's a waste of police resources."
