A 18-year-old has been detained on suspicion of spreading false information that an item will explode at The Float @ Marina Bay, where the National Day Parade was happening.
On Tuesday, August 9, he tweeted that the device was located behind a seat in row 27.
The police stated that they were made aware of the social media post at around 7:10 p.m. that day.
Within two hours after the alleged crime, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Ang Mo Kio Police Division identified the culprit and apprehended him.
Initial investigations revealed no suspicious objects at the site.
Two mobile phones were confiscated as evidence in the investigation.
If convicted, the boy could face up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
