NSF gets probation for stealing milk powder to pay for driving license and daily needs

A 20-year-old national serviceman, Chua Jun Xuan Alister, has been sentenced to 15 months' probation and 40 hours of community service after pleading guilty to stealing at least 25 cans of milk powder over a period of more than a year.

Chua targeted a specific brand with high resale value to pay for his daily needs and driving license.

Between July 2021 and September 2022, Chua stole Enfamil Pro A+ milk powder, selling the cans for approximately S$3,000 on Carousell. He used the proceeds to cover his living expenses and finance his driving license.

The thefts took place at Sheng Siong supermarkets located at Block 451 Bukit Batok Avenue 6 and 3 Yuan Ching Road.

The thefts came to light when an assistant manager conducting a stock take noticed the discrepancy in the number of milk tins and subsequently filed a police report.

In addition to the theft charges, Chua admitted to cheating others out of money through a Zouk ticket scam. He has since made restitution of about S$1,000 to the victim of the scam as well as to the affected supermarkets.

As part of his probation, Chua's grandmother has provided a bond of S$5,000 to ensure his compliance and good behavior during the probationary period.
