POFMA issued to Wake Up Singapore in response to KKH miscarriage accus

Wake Up Singapore was given a correction instruction under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) for posting a woman's allegation of miscarriage after a four-hour wait at KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH).

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said "These allegations are false", in a media statement on Mar 27.

"KKH identified the patient in question based on a screenshot of a hospital bill that accompanied WUSG's (Wake Up Singapore) postings that featured inconsistencies with the patient's narrative of events," the ministry said.

"Subsequent KKH investigations established that the woman was examined by a doctor within an hour of her February 2022 admission to KKH and did not suffer a miscarriage."

Immediately after MOH's media release, Wake Up Singapore released the rectification notifications on Facebook and Instagram. The original postings have been removed.

Postings regarding the alleged event went viral on Wednesday when the country released the woman's allegation with a photo of a redacted medical bill dated Feb 28.

The story included a chronology of the woman's visit to KKH. She said she miscarried after being reportedly left unattended for four hours at the A&E.

KKH said on Friday that it has submitted a police complaint after concluding that no such incident occurred at the hospital.

Wake Up Singapore issued an apology for publishing the woman's statements, stating that it "might have been fed falsehoods at every point."
