Police report made against company that sold "mystery package" during Comex

The Singapore police have confirmed that a report has been made against The Auction House, the store that sold so-called unclaimed parcels containing "mystery" items at Comex for S$6 from September 1 to September 4.

The Straits Times reported that the merchant may have committed an offense if it is discovered to have sold mystery boxes, which are currently prohibited in Singapore.

Comex is one of the major technology exhibitions conducted annually in Singapore.

Videos posted by The Auction House demonstrated an abundance of purchasers for the mystery boxes.

The Auction House's founder, Melissa Wix, was seen on livestream video advertising the auction by disclosing some of the parcels' contents.

However, costs for such products as massagers and flasks were not posted or discussed.

According to ST, Singapore law has not yet properly defined mystery boxes, meaning that the selling of such items is now operating in a legal gray area.

However, these shipments with concealed contents may contain products of more worth than what buyers would ordinarily pay for them.

The Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) had previously stated its intention to regulate mystery boxes and include protections, such as a S$100 limit.
