On Monday, two 16-year-old teenagers were arrested for criminal intimidation following an alleged prank involving a toy gun.
At 7:04 a.m. on Monday, a store employee in Yishun Street 22 was threatened with a plastic gun, according to a statement released by the police on Tuesday.
The identities of the two were determined by Woodlands Police Division officers using inquiries and closed-circuit television footage. They were arrested three hours after the report was made.
The toy pistol, the mobile phone used to record the hoax, and the teenagers' clothing were seized.
According to preliminary investigations, the teens allegedly intended to scare the employee for amusement with the toy pistol.
According to the police, one of the teens approached the cash register to make a payment. After the item was scanned, he pulled out a fake pistol and pointed it at the employee, while his companion recorded the incident.
Upon hearing the employee's shouting, the two began to chuckle and revealed that the pistol was fake, police said.
The police stated that they have zero tolerance for actions that "unnecessarily alarm the public."
The definition of criminal intimidation is threatening another individual with bodily harm with the intent to intimidate them. Anyone found culpable may face up to ten years in prison, a fine, or both.
