Full-time national servicemen (NSFs) and regulars will not be required to give up their civilian identification cards upon enlistment.
From Sunday (May 15) onwards, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) will no longer require NSFs and regulars in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to surrender their identification cards (ICs) for safekeeping for the length of their service, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Monday (May 9).
According to Mindef, the military IC will continue to be provided to all NSFs and regulars of the SAF, since it continues to function as their main identification as SAF service personnel. "From this point on, SAF members will have both their NRICs and their military ICs."
In addition, the Ministry of Home Affairs will no longer require Home Team NSFs to give their physical identity cards for safekeeping, starting with the NSFs enlisting this month.
