The Straits Times reported that a 37-year-old man was detained after reportedly making a bomb threat aboard a Singapore Airlines (SIA) aircraft from San Francisco to Changi Airport early on Wednesday, September 28.
Wednesday at around 2:40 a.m., police were notified of the alleged bomb threat.
CNA stated that the arrested man reportedly attacked a member of the cabin crew.
At 10:26 p.m. on Monday, SQ33 departed San Francisco.
ST reported that, according to its information, the apprehended individual is a foreign national.
Approximately 5.50 a.m. on Wednesday, Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) fighter planes were dispatched to escort a plane that arrived at Changi Airport.
The aircraft was then taxied to an isolated part of the airport for security inspections, according to a spokesperson for Singapore Airlines who spoke with ST.
After the completion of security inspections, the aircraft was towed to Changi Airport Terminal 3.
The police stated, "Preliminary investigations suggest that a 37-year-old male passenger claimed there was a bomb in a carry-on bag and assaulted the crew."
"The crew restrained him, and he was subsequently detained by the authorities in accordance with Regulation 8(1) of the United Nations (Anti-Terrorism Measures) Regulations and on suspicion of drug use. Investigations by the police are underway."
The plane's passengers disembarked after 9 a.m.
It is an offence for a person to make false claims that a terrorist act has been, is being or will be carried out.
Those found guilty may be penalized with a maximum fine of S$500,000 or imprisonment for a maximum term of 10 years, or both.
