During his meeting with Malaysia's King Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah on Tuesday, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reiterated the warm and strong connections between his nation and Malaysia.

Mr. Wong underlined the warm, historic, and multifaceted friendship between Singapore and Malaysia, which has been built upon a unique shared history and strong people-to-people relationships, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.

The statement reads, "Deputy Prime Minister Wong expressed Singapore's eagerness to host His Majesty on his state visit to Singapore this month."

Mr. Wong met with the King on a four-day official visit to Malaysia from Sunday to Wednesday. Since becoming deputy prime minister in June, Mr. Wong is making his first official visit to Malaysia.

According to Malaysia's national news agency, Finance Minister Mr. Wong met with Sultan Abdullah in Istana Negara for thirty minutes.

Mrs. Wong, Loo Tze Lui, and the Queen, Tunku Azizah Iskandar, were also present.

Others include Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah of Malaysia, Foreign Ministry secretary-general Amran Mohamed Zin, and High Commissioner Vanu Gopala Menon of Singapore to Malaysia.

In addition, the King and Queen held a lunch for Mr. Wong, his wife, and the remainder of the entourage.

Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the Royal Household Comptroller, stated that Sultan Abdullah and Mr. Wong discussed the unique and strong connection between Malaysia and Singapore.

"His Majesty expressed the view that Malaysia and Singapore, as neighboring nations with deep historical and people-to-people relations, must continue to work closely in different sectors and at all levels, particularly in the post-Covid era," said Datuk Seri Ahmad.

The King stated that it was essential for both nations to complement one another and increase their social ties, commerce, and investments.

Mr. Ahmad was reported by Bernama as adding, "His Majesty stated that as two close neighbors, Malaysia would continue to improve relations and collaboration with Singapore."

During the meeting, the King and Mr. Wong also discussed numerous matters of mutual interest, including Sultan Abdullah's impending three-day state visit to Singapore beginning September 19.

"The state visit will boost bilateral relations between Malaysia and Singapore," Mr. Ahmad stated.
