In Malaysia, foreign-registered vehicles are prohibited from refueling with RON 95. But, as has been observed on countless occasions, there are still individuals who disregard this rule and continue to use subsidized fuel.
Subsequently, a video was uploaded to the SG Road Vigilante's YouTube channel documenting a similar event. In a video dated March 25, 2023, the driver of a Honda Odyssey with a Singapore license plate had just completed refueling when he was informed by the person behind the camera that he was not permitted to use RON 95.
In response, the guy asserted that he was Malaysian and "entitled" to purchase RON 95, which is incorrect. The regulation is straightforward: if a vehicle has a foreign license plate and not a Malaysian one, it must be refueled with RON 97 and not subsidized RON 95.
It does not matter whether you are Malaysian; the focus is on where the car is registered, not the individual. The purchase of foreign-registered diesel automobiles is restricted to 20 litres per day at gas stations within 25 kilometers of the Malaysia-Singapore border gate.
