Employees affected by the most recent wave of layoffs at e-commerce platform Shopee will get "fair compensation packages" in accordance with market standards, the company and the Creative Media and Publishing Union (CMPU) said in a joint statement on Monday.
On Monday, several Singaporean employees were informed that they will be affected by more layoffs.
The Straits Times has learned that a low single-digit percentage of Shopee employees are affected, however it is unclear how many of the platform's regional markets would be touched by this new cost-cutting initiative.
The Business Times said on Monday that Shopee laid off personnel in human resources, regional operations, marketing, and product and engineering.
It also claimed sources as stating that certain employees, including those in Singapore and China, began getting layoff warnings through email immediately after Monday's department-wide town halls.
Shopee, the e-commerce subsidiary of Sea, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, reduced its ShopeeFood and ShopeePay teams in the area early this year.
