The health ministry said late Wednesday that Singapore had confirmed its first local case of monkeypox.
The patient is a 45-year-old Malaysian guy with Singaporean citizenship. On Wednesday he tested positive.
Three close connections of the individual have been identified as of Wednesday, and they will be quarantined for 21 days since their last contact with him, according to an accompanying statement.
His symptoms included skin sores on his lower belly, weariness, enlarged lymph nodes, a fever, and a sore throat.
His status is stable, and he is now in a ward at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) in Singapore, according to the ministry, which added that the danger of transmission to the general population remains minimal.
The patient is unrelated to the imported case reported last month.
