Tuesday saw the greatest number of daily Covid-19 infections in Singapore in more than three months, according to the Ministry of Health's website.
There are 11,504 new Covid-19 cases in the city-state, of which 10,732 are local infections and 772 are imported. It is the biggest number of infections recorded since March 22, when 13,166 cases of Covid-19 were reported.
Tuesday noon, the Health Ministry said that there were 437 hospitalized patients, including nine in critical care and 36 requiring oxygen support. As more people attend social gatherings during the weekend, the number of daily infections tends to be greater on Tuesdays than on other days.
Health Minister Ong Ye Kung stated in an address at the Global Health Security Conference on Wednesday that although Singapore is in a "somewhat stable situation" with regard to Covid-19, people should not relax their vigilance since the epidemic is not yet gone. Monday's Straits Times reported that Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said the government cannot rule out strengthening Covid-19 limits again in the face of a recurrence of cases, though authorities intend to "ride through this wave" without doing so.
Approximately 92% of Singapore's population is double-vaccinated, and more than 75% have additionally received a Covid booster. According to data from the health ministry, hospitalizations have remained relatively consistent, although the number of virus-infected individuals has grown to 300 in the previous week. On Monday, a one-and-a-half-year-old child infected with Covid-19 died, marking the first fatality in Singapore caused by the virus in a patient less than 12 years old.
