Bangkok has apprehended a Singaporean who fled to Thailand after reportedly hacking personal accounts on social media networks in his home country.
On Thursday, a police squad apprehended 32-year-old Ong Jian Zhen inside a condo in Bangkok's Huai Kwang area.
Ananyalak Chuenjai, a 28-year-old Thai lady, was also detained following the seizure of a sachet of crystal methamphetamine, two sachets of ketamine, and one sachet of Erimin 5 from the room. In addition, three bank accounts and an electronic balance were seized.
Mr. Zhen was wanted on an arrest warrant issued by the Sa Kaeo Provinciali Court on December 19 for using a counterfeit passport, according to Pol Col Phadol Chandorn, superintendent of the Technology Crime Suppression Division sub-division 5.
Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Singapore Police Force had contacted the commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Pol Lt Gen Jirabhop Bhuridej, to assist in the arrest of Mr Zhen, who allegedly hacked personal social media accounts to buy goods online, causing damage to many people, according to Pol Col Phadol.
The Singaporean was detained on October 26 for using a forged passport to enter the country. However, he was briefly freed on bail and evaded capture, according to Pol Col Phadol.
The police launched an investigation and located him in Bangkok. They located him in his room and arrested him together with the Thai woman.
Initial charges were filed against the defendant in accordance with the arrest warrant. The cops accused him and the woman with conspiring to possess illegal substances and sent them over to the Sutthisarn police for further investigation.
