SportSG will acquire ownership of Singapore Sports Hub to enhance community accessibility

Sport Singapore (SportSG) will take over ownership and operation of the Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang on December 9, with intentions to make the facility more accessible to the general public.

Friday (10 June) SportSG announced that it has achieved an agreement with existing operator SportsHub Pte Ltd (SHPL) to end their public-private collaboration.

Since its construction in 2014, Sports Hub has been operational for eight years.

Since then, "Singapore's objectives and requirements, as well as the broader operating environment for sports and entertainment, have altered significantly," SportSG and SHPL stated in a joint press statement.

"SportSG will have greater control and flexibility over the Sports Hub as a result of its ownership and direct management.

"SportSG will maximize the Sports Hub's potential and use synergies with the Kallang Alive development"

During a media briefing, SportSG chairman Kon Yin Tong stated that the development of new sports facilities has also increased competitiveness in the region.

"The decision was taken after considerable thought," he added. "We must maximize the value of the Sports Hub... to ensure that it maintains pace with the times, the competitive landscape, and the nation's evolving requirements."

Lim Teck Yin, the chief executive officer of SportSG, stated that the organization will establish a new corporate company to operate the athletic stadium and collaborate with private sector partners "in a more flexible framework" for certain programs or events.
