Spotify Comes Full Circle Back To Radio

Spotify has introduced an AI-powered DJ feature, currently in Beta, exclusively for its Premium users in Singapore. DJ was initially introduced in the U.S. and Canada in February and finally made its way to Singapore in August.

DJ has the ability to select and play music for you, providing a carefully curated playlist accompanied by commentary that relates to your activities within the app, all presented in a natural-sounding voice. This commentary includes context-specific information, mentioning songs and artists you've previously listened to. Essentially, it's like having your own personal radio DJ.

Spotify plans to continue expanding the capabilities of DJ and improving its performance since it is still in the beta stage. This feature, known as DJ, has gained significant attention on social media and is designed to offer personalized music recommendations based on your music preferences, aiming to connect you with artists it believes you'll enjoy. Initially, the AI voice model for DJ is modeled after Xavier "X" Jernigan, Spotify's Head of Cultural Partnerships (pictured, right)

Spotify is excited about this new personalization thrust in their product:

We’ve found that when DJ listeners hear commentary alongside personal music recommendations, they’re more willing to try something new (or listen to a song they may have otherwise skipped). And as we bring DJ to new markets, we’re seeing users tune in even more, with fans spending nearly one-third of their listening time with DJ.

But is this feature really good? Opinions are clearly divided on whether Spotify's latest offering is novelty or something special.

To access this feature, simply open the Spotify mobile app on your Android or iOS device, navigate to your Music Feed on the Home page, and tap the play button for DJ.
