Tesla fires the Singapore country manager after Elon Musk expects a 10% reduction in employment

Earlier this month, Tesla's founder and CEO, Elon Musk, warned of global layoffs. As a result, Tesla's Singapore country manager has been let go.

"Tesla announced a 10 percent cut in its personnel. "As of today, my position has been removed," the company's country manager in Singapore, Christopher Bousigues, posted on LinkedIn on Sunday. "I am happy to have been the company's first country manager in Southeast Asia and the person responsible for starting the business in Singapore."

His LinkedIn page indicates that he joined Tesla in June of last year.

"Over the past year, my team and I have built the business from the ground up, made the Model 3 a common sight in Singapore, set up 2 showrooms, 1 service center (which I affectionately refer to as the Jewel of Asia), developed a network of 7 superchargers across the island, and yesterday successfully launched Model Y with overwhelming response," said Bousigues.

Earlier this month, in an email to executives seen by Reuters, Musk stated that he had a "terrible feeling" about the economy and that he intends to slash around 10 percent of the company's workforce.

According to a report quoting the company's annual Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, Tesla employed over 100,000 individuals by the end of 2021.
