The People's Action Party (PAP) selected three new branch chairs in Sengkang GRC on Sunday March 27.

Associate Professor Elmie Nekmat will lead Sengkang Central, while Ms Theodora Lai Xi Yi will lead Sengkang North, and Mr Ling Weihong will lead Sengkang East.

Dr Lam Pin Min will retain his position as Sengkang West branch chairman and would head the PAP's team in the seat, the party stated in a statement.

Dr Lam was a member of the People's Action Party's Sengkang GRC slate for the 2020 General Election, which also included Mr Ng Chee Meng, Mr Amrin Amin, and Mr Raymond Lye Hoong Yip.

The Workers' Party team comprised of Ms He Ting Ru, Associate Professor Jamus Lim, Mr Louis Chua, and Ms Raeesah Khan won the constituency in the election.

Mr Ng would now act as an adviser to the PAP's Sengkang GRC team, the party said, while Mr Amrin and Mr Lye "will help in seeing through the transition for the PAP Sengkang team to continue serving our Sengkang constituents."

Three fresh faces for the PAP in Sengkang come from academics, technology, and the legal professions.

Assoc Prof Elmie is an associate professor of communications and new media and the faculty's assistant dean of research.

He has been a party activist since 2016 and also serves on the boards of the Singapore Sports Council, Ngee Ann Polytechnic's council, and the Central Community Development Council as a district councillor (CDC).

Ms Lai is the chief strategy officer of Burpple, a dining portal, and has been an activist for the party since 2009.

She co-founded the Young Women's Leadership Connection and serves as a district councillor for the Northeast CDC.

Mr Ling is a private practitioner lawyer who has been an active member of the party since 2015.

He previously volunteered with the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme as an assessor under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act from April to October 2020.
