Thursday, February 2nd, Member of Parliament (MP) Tin Pei Ling addressed issues regarding a potential conflict of interest between her roles in Parliament and at Grab Singapore, where she is in charge of government relations.
In a LinkedIn post, Ms. Tin stated, "It is mutually understood that my work as a parliamentarian is different from my role at Grab." The company confirmed her position as director of public affairs and policies on Wednesday.
In her article, Ms. Tin distinguished between her two jobs as a politician and an employee of a Nasdaq-listed firm.
"When discharging my responsibilities as a member of Parliament, my constituency and Singapore will always take first. When representing Grab, I shall be responsible for ensuring that its interests are protected " said Ms Tin.
"As to which capacity I represent at any time: I will be transparent and above board."
Ms. Tin noted that Grab has developed "clear rules of engagement" to ensure that such conflicts of interest are "properly declared and avoided."
"Similarly, the PAP (People's Action Party) has issued Rules of Prudence and processes in place for disclosures of interest and the avoidance of conflicts of interest."
Ms. Tin, who began her position in January, attended Grab's Chinese New Year lunch for driver- and delivery-partners on Wednesday in her new capacity.
Prior to joining the IT giant, she was the chief executive officer of Business China, a Singapore-based non-profit that fostered Singapore-China partnerships. According to her LinkedIn page, Ms. Tin continues to serve on the organization's board of directors.
