Twitter employees in S'pore getting axed

Employees of Twitter in Singapore anticipate that they will be laid off as early as Saturday at midnight. Nov. 5, Singapore time (9am, Friday, Nov. 4 Pacific time).

Globally, 3,700 out of 7,500 positions are expected to be terminated.

In an internal message published by major news sources across the world, Twitter stated that workers not affected by the layoffs will be alerted via work email.

The message stated that employees who have been laid off will get a personal email with further instructions.

There will be no staff access to the office

During the process of laying off employees, Twitter will temporarily close its offices and restrict employee access.

The team has been warned that all badge access will be halted to "help safeguard the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data."

After purchasing the firm for $44 billion, the new owner, Elon Musk, quickly demanded huge cost reductions and enforced an aggressive new work culture across the board. These significant changes are occurring less than a week later.

According to Reuters, an email issued to employees stated, "In an effort to set Twitter on a healthy path, we will undergo the arduous process of downsizing our worldwide workforce on Friday."

Twitter workers in Singapore speak out

Twitter employees who talked to CNA anonymously criticized Musk and the layoff procedure.

One employee stated, "I would characterize this entire matter as being handled in an impersonal, unprofessional, and hurried manner."

Nonetheless, the employees stated that there is a feeling of finality now that the layoffs would be implemented.
