They were the two that testified in Committee of Privileges probe into Raeesah Khan.
Two Workers' Party (WP) members who testified in the Committee of Privileges investigation into the conduct of former Member of Parliament Raeesah Khan have resigned.
According to Facebook posts on their personal pages, Ms. Loh Peiying and Mr. Yudhishthra Nathan submitted their resignations to WP secretary-general Pritam Singh on Wednesday, November 9th.
Ms. Loh was the previous secretary to Ms. Khan and the secretary to WP head Pritam Singh from March 2013 and January 2016. Mr. Nathan volunteered for the party.
"Since December 2021, we have stopped volunteer work for Workers' Party wards and initiatives. Ms. Loh and Mr. Nathan responded, "We have remained members in name only and have not been actively participating."
"Because of this, we've decided to resign. The past eleven months have not been easy for us, and we believe the time has come for us to leave the Workers' Party.
"We want to return to being ordinary citizens, free to express ourselves as individuals without others questioning our allegiances and loyalty."
The Committee of Privileges was established to investigate Ms. Khan's conduct in respect to a falsehood she gave about a sexual assault case in August 2021.
Ms. Khan resigned from the WP and her position as a member of parliament for the Sengkang Group Representation Constituency in November 2021, following her admission of the falsehood in the House earlier that month.
In February, the Committee of Privileges announced its complete findings and recommended that Ms. Khan be fined S$35,000 for repeatedly lying in Parliament and abusing her parliamentary privilege.
The committee also stated that it was "satisfied" that WP leaders lied under oath, which "may constitute perjury." Mr. Singh and Faisal Manap, the vice-chairman of the WP, have been submitted to the police for further investigation.
In her testimony, Ms. Loh stated that she was "disappointed" that Mr. Singh gave Ms. Khan the option of telling the truth if she was asked about the sexual assault story in Parliament on Oct. 4.
Ms. Loh and Mr. Nathan wrote on Wednesday, "We've both been with the party for at least nine years and have been cadres since 2016." Throughout these years, we have contributed actively to several teams and departments at the grassroots and strategic levels.
"We cherish our memories of our time spent in the Workers' Party. We have created friends for life with one other and others along the way.
Many Workers' Party rank-and-file members have devoted their life to making Singapore a better place. We hope they remember to prioritize the wellbeing of Singaporeans in all they do."
