A top official at the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture said on Wednesday (July 13) that Indonesia will begin exporting chicken products to Singapore.
Mdm Tri Mela Sari, a director at the ministry, told CNA that the first shipment will include frozen chicken meat provided by the Indonesian branch of the Thai food behemoth Charoen Pokphand. Unknown is the current export volume.
"On Wednesday, July 13, we will ship our first shipment of chicken meat to Singapore." At the CPI (Charoen Pokphand Indonesia) office, we will hold a news conference. She stated on Tuesday that further information would be provided at the press conference.
The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has granted clearance to three Indonesian firms to export chicken meat and chicken meat products into Singapore.
Two of the enterprises are subsidiaries of Charoen Pokphand in Indonesia, while the third is a subsidiary of the Indonesian frozen food behemoth Japfa Comfeed.
Ms. Mela Sari said on Tuesday that two of these businesses are still in negotiations with their Singaporean counterparts.
"These are business-to-business (B2B) discussions. "It will rely on discussions between firms in both nations as to when the other two companies may begin exporting their chicken goods," she added.
According to the ministry's head of animal product processing and marketing, twelve additional Indonesian enterprises are requesting permission to export chicken goods to Singapore. The SFA has received each and every application.
Before being granted license to export food to Singapore, the SFA stipulates that individual enterprises and farms must be reviewed and authorized through rigorous document reviews and on-site audits.
Approximately a third of the 214,400 tonnes of chicken meat imported by Singapore from Malaysia last year.
Malaysia has placed an export embargo on up to 3.6 million chickens per month as a result of local supply and pricing concerns, with some chicken sellers selling entire birds for more than the price cap in order to meet their costs.
Following the export prohibition, Singapore declared that it will import chicken from other countries, including Indonesia and Thailand.
The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture predicted last month that the country's chicken meat production will reach 5.9 million tonnes in 2022.
This year, it is anticipated that the domestic demand for chicken meat would reach 5,3 million tonnes. This implies a monthly excess of around 50,000 tonnes on average.
