Who is Delane Lim, the "Ah Beng" spotted during Edwin Tong's walkabout?

Political Otter

Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, was videoed to be "snubbed" by the citizens during a Marine Parade walkabout on 22 March 2025. One elderly man was caught on camera, raising his middle finger when Minister Tong was next to him. Following this fiasco, Delane Lim, one of the PAP volunteer present during the walkabout took to social media to recount the incident. He claimed that the video was taken out of context, and the interactions were cordial despite the raised finger.

Who is Delane Lim?

He rose to prominence in Aug 2020 after sharing his interview experience with young Singaporeans. He wrote in his FB post that young Singaporeans are entitled, "not hungry"and unrealistic in their job demands during a global pandemic. If they are not willing to suffer like the older generation, don't blame SME bosses for hiring foreigners. Netizens were extremely triggered by his posts, as they felt it was reasonable for the interviewees to raise questions about salary, workdays and job benefits during an interview.

On Reddit, he was also previously exposed to have sent a fake retrenchment email to his employees so that they will have a "heart attack" and be "grateful" for their jobs. This is ironic as he claims to be a suicide prevention specialist on his Facebook page, yet he employs fearmongering tactics towards his employees.

Delane Lim ended up incurring the public's wrath after his attempt to diffuse the situation in the recent walkabout with Minister Tong. The public disapproval towards Delane, certainly reminds Singaporeans of PAP's previous candidate Ivan Lim, whose dark past was singled out by netizens and was forced to withdraw from the election. Delane could draw conclusions from the Ivan Lim's saga, should he decide to stand in the coming election with PAP.
